Ladies in this day and age have a lot to worry about, and at Houston Galleria Surgery & Medspa, we don’t want a lack of comfort or confidence caused by stretched vaginal walls to be one of them. Vaginoplasty (also referred to as surgical vaginal rejuvenation/reshaping) is a surgical procedure used to tighten and strengthen the walls of the vagina, which may become lax over time due to age, childbirth, significant weight loss, or genetics. At our Houston, TX office, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Marcos Ikeda offers surgical vaginal rejuvenation to tighten the vagina and vaginal muscles. If you would like to achieve a tighter vaginal contour, schedule a consultation with Dr. Marcos to learn more about vaginoplasty at Houston Galleria Surgery & Medspa.

During a consultation with Dr. Marcos, he will decide if you are a good candidate for vaginoplasty. Your age, medical history, and aesthetic goals will be assessed and considered at this appointment before Dr. Marcos can build your custom treatment plan. You could be a candidate for a vaginoplasty if you:
- Are interested in increasing your sexual satisfaction
- Feel that your vaginal muscles did not recover after childbirth
- Have a naturally large vaginal opening
- Suffer from vaginal laxity
- Were given an episiotomy during childbirth
A vaginoplasty removes the loose vaginal lining and tightens the area’s soft tissues and muscles. The procedure is usually performed as an outpatient procedure in an accredited surgical center under general anesthesia. The surgery will begin with Dr. Marcos creating incisions in discreet locations on the sides of the vagina and then gently tightening the muscle tissue beneath the skin. The vaginal opening will also be reduced in size by removing a portion of the vaginal lining (mucosa). If you will be combining your vaginoplasty with a labiaplasty (which addresses the external appearance), Dr. Marcos will perform that surgery following the vaginoplasty. At the end of the procedure(s), Dr. Marcos will carefully close the incisions for optimal results and minimal scarring.
What to Expect
You can expect a bit of discomfort and tenderness following the surgery. Swelling and bruising are also common following a vaginoplasty procedure. It is recommended that you avoid sexual intercourse, tampon use, or strenuous exercise for about 4 – 6 weeks. In most circumstances, you will be able to return to seated work in about a week with a full return to daily activities at around three months. After recovering from the surgical procedure, you can expect a renewed vaginal opening that looks and feels slimmer and tighter. Some patients even report heightened sensitivity and increased friction during intercourse.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my results last?
The results achieved by a vaginoplasty will often last for many years. However, this surgery does not stop the natural aging process and with age, your vaginal tissue will continue to naturally lose its tautness. On average, many patients only receive one vaginoplasty in their lifetime. The longevity of vaginoplasty results will vary from patient to patient, depending on their genetic makeup and lifestyle.
Can I have children after a vaginoplasty?
A vaginoplasty typically does not interfere with a woman’s ability to give birth. However, we do recommend that women wait to undergo a vaginoplasty until they have completed growing their family as pregnancy and childbirth will alter the results. If you become pregnant after your initial vaginoplasty, a secondary surgery can be performed to restore your results.
Risks of vaginoplasty?
The most common risks associated with vaginoplasty include bleeding, infection, and scarring, but these are generally a part of any surgical procedure. During your private consultation, Dr. Marcos can help answer all your questions and concerns so you can make an informed decision and feel confident about moving forward with your treatment.
